Media Alert: Plimoth Patuxet Museums Announces Date of Annual Green Corn Celebration

Plymouth, Massachusetts (July 30, 2026) – Plimoth Patuxet Museums is pleased to announce that the annual Green Corn Celebration will take place on Saturday, August 8, 10 am - 4 pm. Community members are invited to join the celebration at the Historic Patuxet Homesite as Educators mark the event with a range of special activities across the Museum.
For many Indigenous communities throughout the Americas, corn is central to daily lifeways, sustaining families and shaping customs for thousands of years. The first ripening of corn, when the ears are young and at their sweetest, is known as Green Corn. Among the Wampanoag and additional Native Nations in southern New England, this time is traditionally observed in August. Like other full moon celebrations, Green Corn is welcomed with singing, dancing, feasting, games, and ceremony.
Guests will have the opportunity to watch a traditional mush8n (dugout canoe) be made. The celebration will also include Wampanoag games and toys, including Hub Hub, a garden and flora tour, and corn husk doll making. Throughout the day, coloring crafts will delight young learners as they explore the significance of corn.
In the Craft Center, guests may also enjoy the new exhibit “Threads of Identity: Wampanoag Clothing Across Generations,” which explores how clothing has continued to be a means of expressing identity, adaption, and cultural continuity throughout the centuries.
Green Corn Celebration Activities:
- 10 am - 3 pm: Learn about the seasonal Wampanoag diet through a foodways demonstration
- 10 - 11 am and 3 - 4 pm: Garden flora tour
- 10 am - 4 pm: Coloring in the Craft Center
- 11 am - 12 pm: Wampanoag games and toys, including Hub Hub
- 12 - 1 pm: Corn husk doll making
- 1 - 2 pm: Mush8n demonstration
- 2 - 3 pm: Archery on the Historic Patuxet Homesite
Access to all Green Corn Celebration events are included with admission to Plimoth Patuxet.
Plimoth Patuxet Museums is open seven days a week, 9 am - 5 pm, now through the Sunday following Thanksgiving Day.
