Plimoth Patuxet Museums Celebrates Strawberry Thanksgiving

Event to take place June 21, 10 am - 4 pm

Plymouth, Massachusetts (June 11, 2025) – Plimoth Patuxet Museums is pleased to announce that it will be celebrating Strawberry Thanksgiving on Saturday, June 21, 10 am - 4 pm. This annual event, presented by Museum Educators on the Historic Patuxet Homesite, will feature programming and educational activities across the Museum for guests of all ages to enjoy.

Since time immemorial Eastern Woodland Peoples have marked the beginning of summer with the ripening of strawberries, the first berry of the season. Known as a “heart berry,” communities gather together on the full moon to harvest and celebrate this gift from the Creator with feasting, games, songs, and dance. “Strawberry Thanksgiving is a time to be outside and enjoy moments with friends and family,” said Malissa Costa, Guest Experience Manager at the Historic Patuxet Homesite. “We invite all members of the community to join us this Strawberry Thanksgiving and to learn more about Wampanoag culture and lifeways.”

“Everyday on the Historic Patuxet Homesite, guests are able to engage in thoughtful conversations with Museum Educators to expand their understanding of the history of the Wampanoag People, their resilience against the disruption of colonization, and their thriving culture and communities today,” said Executive Director Tom Begley. “Special celebrations like Strawberry Thanksgiving highlight rich cultural activities that deepen community connections and understanding.”

Plimoth Patuxet Museums is open seven days a week, 9 am - 5 pm, now through the Sunday following Thanksgiving Day. Access to all Strawberry Thanksgiving events are included with admission to Plimoth Patuxet.
