Plimoth Patuxet Museums Recognized as ‘Best Historical Site’ in New England
Designation crowns a trio of travel and tourism awards for the Museum in 2024
Plymouth, Massachusetts (October 2, 2024) – Plimoth Patuxet Museums is pleased to announce that it has been named ‘Best Historical Site’ by Boston Magazine’s New England Travel Awards. The designation crowns a trio of travel and tourism recognitions that Plimoth Patuxet has earned in 2024, including #1 ‘Best Open-Air Museum’ by USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and South Shore Home Life & Style’s Best of South Shore (BOSS) 2024 Award in the ‘Best Museum’ category.
For their inaugural New England Travel Awards, Boston Magazine asked readers to nominate their favorite places across New England in 20 different categories. At the conclusion of the nomination period, Boston Magazine’s panel of travel experts reviewed submissions and selected a winner in each category. Out of the numerous nominees, Plimoth Patuxet was selected as the ‘Best Historical Site’.

This award comes soon after Plimoth Patuxet Museums was named ‘Best Museum’ by South Shore Home Life & Style’s Best of South Shore (BOSS) Award, and as the #1 ‘Best Open-Air Museum’ by USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. “It is truly an honor to receive these three prestigious designations,” said Ellie Donovan, Executive Director. “We’re grateful to our enthusiastic community of supporters and to our wonderful staff and volunteers who provide engaging experiences of history, culture, and heritage for our visitors.”
Since its founding more than 75 years ago, Plimoth Patuxet has welcomed millions of people through its doors and has been a global leader in the world of living history. The Museum’s exhibits, programs, and events continue to reflect a commitment to innovation and scholarship in telling the stories of the 17th century in all their complexity. Plimoth Patuxet Museums is open seven days a week, 9 am - 5 pm, now through the Sunday following Thanksgiving Day.

Plimoth Patuxet is one of the Nation’s foremost living history museums. Founded in 1947, the Museum creates engaging experiences of history built on thorough research about the Indigenous and European people who met along Massachusetts' historic shores of change in the 1600s.
