Museum Summary
Plimoth Patuxet Museums is a living history museum of the 17th-century that provides engaging and experiential outdoor and indoor learning environments on its main campus, and at Mayflower II on Plymouth’s waterfront, and at the Plimoth Grist Mill. Our permanent exhibits tell the complex and interwoven stories of two distinct cultures - English and Wampanoag.
Operating on a remarkable property overlooking Cape Cod Bay, Plimoth Patuxet brings the story of the United States’ early foundation to life for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year since its founding in 1947. The main exhibits are enhanced with an exciting array of special events, public programs and workshops that offer a rich and diverse exploration of the 17th-century.

Position Summary
The Cinema Host provides world-class customer service, while attending to the needs of our museum cinema patrons, and fellow staff. The Cinema Host’s primary responsibility is to run the appropriate film technology and help with general cinema operations. Serves as the first point of contact for all of the Museum’s cinema patrons. Shifts may vary between our cinema needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate the cinema projectors
Sell tickets Collect and make change
Monitor temperature, audio, and visual film presentations and communicate issues to management
Report movie sales (Cinema only) and close out end of day tills.
Prepare and serve concessions
Restock merchandise
Maintain a clean service area

Ability to work a flexible schedule to include: nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Be punctual for all scheduled shifts.
Must have some knowledge of film delivery technology.
Must be able to speak (briefly) to large crowds in a theater format.
Demonstrate a professional attitude and enthusiasm for Plimoth Patuxet Museums.
Always present an impression of readiness and availability to assist guests.
Maintain a neat and organized workstation while performing numerous tasks.
Attend all required training sessions and meetings.
Maintain a basic historical knowledge to answer guest questions about the Museums’ mission.
Perform all duties in a manner consistent with the museum’s Guest Relations Philosophy and customer service goals.
The work environment requires walking and standing, some bending and lifting.
Strong interpersonal, listening and communication skills and the ability to work well as a member of a team are critical to this position.
Must have excellent problem solving skills.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent required;
College courses or degree in Education, History, Public History, Indigenous Studies, Archaeology, or Anthropology strongly preferred
Prior register experience and public front-facing interaction is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Duties may include:
Working sitting, standing, bent over or kneeling;
May involve some lifting and moving of objects;
Standing for extended periods;
Climbing stairs,
Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and/or walking for up to 20% of the time.
The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment.
Additional Requirements
The Museum is open 7 days a week April through the end of November. You must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays, including Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving Day is an “All-Hands On” day. Hours Vary based on times of Cinema showing. Typical Cinema Show hours are 7 Days a week at 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Flexibility in work hours and days off is required. Depending on the season, this position may include working additional night/weekend hours or days as needed. Schedules may change based on weather forecast, and/or low attendance for any given day.
