As the sun dipped behind Boston's skyline, guests aboard MAYFLOWER II experienced an unforgettable evening under sail, while countless more joined the voyage through live television broadcasts from the deck of one of America's most iconic historic ships.
Few places offer a view of Boston quite like the deck of Mayflower II. On the evening of July 14, guests stepped aboard for a rare sunset sail through Boston Harbor, watching the city skyline fade into an unforgettable evening beneath a hazy summer sky. Smoke from Canadian wildfires cast the setting sun in a deep crimson glow, creating an almost surreal backdrop as the ship made her way across the harbor. The unusual conditions transformed the sunset into a once-in-a-lifetime scene.
The evening became even more memorable as NBC10 Boston joined the voyage, broadcasting live from aboard the ship throughout the day and featuring Mayflower II during the station's evening newscast. Together, guests—including Massachusetts Senate President, Karen Spilka, who was featured on the NBC10 Boston news segment—crew, and viewers across New England celebrated the role this remarkable vessel continues to play in connecting people with history during the America 250 commemorations.
