A Wedding for the History Books: Mary Warren & Robert Bartlett
On multiple dates this past summer, Plimoth Patuxet invited guests not only to witness one of Plymouth Colony’s most joyful occasions during “The Wedding of Mary Warren & Robert Bartlett”, but encouraged them to be part of it through immersive living history.
Love was in the air at Plimoth Patuxet Museums this summer—and so were flower crowns, music, wedding feasts, and plenty of dancing.
On select dates in July, August, and September, Museum guests stepped back in time for “The Wedding of Mary Warren & Robert Bartlett,” an immersive celebration inspired by the real marriage of two early Plymouth colonists. Museum guests were not merely spectators during the event, but essential participants.
The day was filled with all the makings of a 17th-century wedding: decorating, preparing food, crafting flower crowns, learning traditional dances, and discovering the customs of the time.
After wedding preparations and a procession down the main street of the 17th-Century English Village, Mary and Robert exchanged vows on the Village Green. Guests celebrated alongside Historical Interpreters with singing, games, and dancing, making history feel tangible and personal.
With hands-on activities, first-person storytelling, and a generous helping of fun, the wedding celebration offered a unique glimpse into life in Plymouth Colony.
