Commemorating the Arrival of a National Treasure: Mayflower II in Boston
With Boston's skyline on the horizon and tall ships gathering from around the world, MAYFLOWER II began her Sail Boston experience with two memorable celebrations that honored history, community, and the enduring spirit of the sea.
After departing Plymouth Harbor on Thursday, July 9, Mayflower II completed her journey to Boston following nearly ten hours under tow by Stasinos Marine. As she entered Boston Harbor that evening, she joined an extraordinary fleet of international tall ships gathered for Sail Boston 2026, helping commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The following morning, supporters stepped aboard for the Welcome Sail, the first of several philanthropic experiences designed to celebrate Mayflower II's arrival while supporting her participation in Sail Boston. Cruising through Boston Harbor aboard one of America's most iconic historic ships, guests enjoyed spectacular views of the city's skyline and waterfront while experiencing the craftsmanship and character of a vessel that continues to tell the story of our nation’s maritime heritage.
More than a memorable morning on the water, every ticket purchased helped support Plimoth Patuxet Museums' educational mission and the ongoing preservation of Mayflower II. These special events made it possible for the ship to continue sailing, sharing history with new audiences, and representing Plymouth on a national stage while in the city.
As Mayflower II settled into her Boston berth alongside some of the world's finest tall ships, she quickly became a centerpiece of the waterfront. Throughout the day, excitement continued to build as her crews prepared for the festivities ahead and visitors gathered along the harbor in anticipation of the weekend's events.
In the evening, supporters boarded the ship for Spars Under the Stars, an unforgettable cocktail reception held beneath Mayflower II's towering masts against the backdrop of the Boston skyline. As the sun set over the harbor and the city's lights reflected across the water, guests enjoyed an evening of conversation and celebration. It was a fitting way to mark Mayflower II's arrival in Boston and to recognize the community whose generosity helps preserve her for future generations.
