UK Speaker of the House of Commons Visits Mayflower II
The visit by Mr. Speaker on July 24 was part of a broader visit to the United States that included stops in Washington, D.C., Boston, and Duxbury.
Plimoth Patuxet Museums was honored to welcome Speaker of the UK House of Commons, The Right Honorable Sir Lindsay Hoyle, for a special visit aboard Mayflower II on July 24. Joined by local Massachusetts legislators Senator Dylan Fernandes, Representative Michelle Badger, and Representative Kathleen LaNatra, Mr. Speaker toured the iconic vessel, taking particular interest in its connection to Myles Standish, who hailed from the Speaker's constituency of Chorley, England.
Greeted by Executive Director Tom Begley, Mayflower II Captain Whit Perry, and Museum Trustee and Former Massachusetts State Senate President Therese Murray, Mr. Speaker crossed the decks of Mayflower II, which was built in England and intended to honor the alliance of friendship forged between the United States and United Kingdom during World War II.
Plimoth Patuxet Museums was proud to welcome the Speaker aboard and to celebrate the enduring bonds of history, friendship, and cultural exchange that Mayflower II continues to represent.
