An Evening of Food and Film: Inundation District Screening
What happens when a vulnerable city builds by the sea?
Join Plimoth Cinema for An Evening of Food and Film on October 19th to welcome back David Abel, director and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for The Boston Globe, to Plimoth Patuxet and view his latest film Inundation District.
The evening will begin with a gathering in Plimoth Patuxet’s Gainsborough Hall. You will enjoy sipping on a selection of wines and delectable bites of artisanal cheeses, jams, seasonal nuts, and cured meats, along with a soft pretzel station featuring assorted mustard dips. Following the hour-long gathering, you will transition to the Linn Theater for a special screening of Inundation District, chronicling the struggle of rising water levels in Boston's Seaport district.
About the Film
One of the world’s wealthiest, most-educated cities made a fateful decision to spend billions of dollars erecting a new district along its coast — on landfill, at sea level. Unlike other places imperiled by climate change, this neighborhood of glass towers housing some of the world’s largest companies was built well after scientists began warning of the threats, including many at its renowned universities. The city, which already has more high-tide flooding than nearly any other in the United States, called its new quarter the Innovation District. But with seas rising inexorably, and at an accelerating rate, others are calling the neighborhood by a different name: Inundation District.
