Saving Family Heirlooms

Collections Management and Museum staff invite guests to bring in paper or film documents for a condition assessment and consultation on custom long-term storage options. This workshop will focus on two dimensional documents, such as paper photographs, journals, letters, scrapbooks, cookbooks, etc.

Workshop Details

This will be a two-day workshop. You may register for Day 1 only or both days.

Day 1 (July 19, 2024 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.)

Learn about preservation techniques and how to limit damage to paper and film.

Day 2 (August 9, 2024 9 a.m.-12 p.m.)

Create a custom archival-quality folder, box, mount, etc. based on your object. Day 2 will also include an option to scan copies of your family heirloom for digital preservation.

Upon registration you will receive an email with further questions about your heirloom.

Note About Appraisals

Plimoth Patuxet Museums and its staff are prohibited from offering valuations, appraisals or authentications of objects and works of art. If you are interested in having a work appraised, we recommend contacting an accredited appraiser through the American Society of Appraisers, the International Society of Appraisers, or similar organization.
