POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities/Exhibit Carpenter is a hands-on position that is part of the Facilities Team responsible for the maintenance, repair, and in some cases, new construction of the reproduction structures, exhibits and built landscapes throughout the Museum.  The Facilities/Exhibit team ensures that all carpentry projects reflect the appropriate historical time period with use of tools, equipment and techniques reflective of the identified era, including modern buildings.  Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, this position is tasked with ongoing routine maintenance of buildings and meeting the goals of a prioritized work plan.

Facilities Swing Shift Supervisor 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Swing Shift Supervisor is a hands-on position at Plimoth Patuxet Museums (PPM) directly involved in daily operations of the Museum’s Facilities with a major emphasis on maintenance of the Museum’s grounds (parking lots, lawns, pathways, wooded areas, etc.).  This individual supervises members of the Environmental Services team, and leads the team to achieve daily, weekly and monthly departmental goals and work plans.  The hours are subject to change but currently the schedule is anticipated to be Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00am - 7:00pm from April through November, and 8:00am - 4:00pm December through March.  Must have minimum of five years of progressive experience and responsibility in a grounds management or maintenance field, two of which were holding a supervisory position directing a multifunctional maintenance staff.  To apply please send resume to apply@plimoth.org.

Guest Experience Lead - Apothecary

POSITION SUMMARY

The Guest Experience Lead (GEL) position is a multifaceted role in the Guest Experience/Historic Sites team. In addition to the regular duties of a Guest Experience Associate, the Leads specialize in one area of expertise. The GEL - Apothecary focuses on the use of plants as medicine in the context of 17th century England, Plymouth colony, and Historic Patuxet. The GEL provides information and leads programs onsite and online for the Museum’s guests. The goal of this position is to foster public understanding about herbalism and the traditions surrounding it and the role and purpose of 17th-century apothecaries and related topics. Wearing modern clothing and speaking from a modern perspective, the GEL will give timed, scheduled programs, talks, and tours. Indigenous Program Associates

POSITION SUMMARY

Plimoth Patuxet Museums seeks creative, outgoing, members of Indigenous communities who are interested in sharing knowledge and fostering public understanding of the history, heritage culture and lifeways of Indigenous communities of the Northeast. The focus is on the 17th-century, but also includes pre-contact as well as history and culture beyond the 17th century. 

The Indigenous Program Associate (IPA) provides information and leads programs onsite and online for the Museum’s guests. Speaking from a modern perspective, the IPA gives timed, scheduled programs, talks and tours. The goal is to deliver a high quality, engaging, interactive and educational experience to guests. With a new Indigenous program building set to break ground in the coming months, we are seeking people who are inspired by the idea of helping to shape the future of the Museum’s Indigenous programs and exhibits.  A high school diploma or equivalent required. BA/BS in a related field such as Indigenous Studies, Education or History is preferred. Historical Clothing and Textiles Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

As part of the Historic Sites and Guest Experience Team, the Historical Clothing and Textiles Coordinator (HCTC) focuses on making and mending, cleaning and caring for historical reproduction costumes and household textiles in daily use on our living history sites. We will provide on the job training in historically-appropriate techniques but you need to have costume/fashion production experience and/or training, perhaps through working in a similar role in a theater or other cultural organization. You should have an interest in dress history. Your creative spirit and positive attitude will enrich our Museum, build strong relationships with your coworkers, and impress our guests. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience related to hands-on costume or clothing production, costume technology, theatre, art/dress history, fashion, or the arts. Guest Experience Manager - Historic Patuxet Homesite

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Miller participates in all aspects of running a re-created, water powered grist mill educational exhibit, including sharing the history and technology of the Mill with Museum guests and producing stone ground products for sale. The position includes milling and processing corn, wheat, rye, oats, and other grains into a variety of products for wholesale and retail distribution, and maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the mill building and mill machinery, all while providing exciting and engaging interactions with Museum guests. It is essential that the Assistant Miller approach their work from a guest first perspective, embody a growth mindset, possess a can-do approach to assignments and enjoy wide variety in their work. The Plimoth Grist Mill Assistant Miller works collaboratively with other Museum employees and volunteers who share the same work space to deliver a high quality, engaging, interactive, fun and educational experience to guests.  He/she must Train in all aspects of operating a water-powered grist mill, including moving mill stones and grinding corn.  With guidance from the Miller/Guest Experience Manager, assist in inspection, maintenance, and repair of mill equipment and parts.  A high school diploma or equivalent required; college courses or degree in education or horticulture strongly preferred.  Interest and at least two years of experience. working with the public is essential.  Experience working with food products strongly preferred.

Horticulture Crew Member 

POSITION SUMMARY

Green thumbs wanted! The Horticulture Crew Member is a 20 hour per week hands-on position working in the Museum’s gardens caring for our living collection of plants. Weed, water, plant/transplant, rake, clear, and generally tend to a variety of garden projects. The Museum’s 30+ acres of public space consist of formal garden spaces, pathways, wooded trails and open fields as well as areas for outdoor functions, so you will be a member of a very busy team. Ideal candidate will be an excellent team player with a fondness for working outside on a variety of projects requiring a high level of physical abilities. Use tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws.  Water lawns, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans. The Potter supplies the Museum’s gift shops and historical sites with handmade 17th-century reproduction pottery. Demonstrates pottery-making to guests and answers their questions. Works behind-the-scenes at times in order to ensure sufficient supply of pottery for the shops, as well as the sites. Engage guests in conversation in a personable, informative style while demonstrating wheel-thrown pottery-making. Fulfill pottery orders placed by the Director of Retail Operations and Merchandising. Meet deadlines for filling the orders. Produce pottery both in front of the public and behind the scenes. Research primary source material (written and pictorial) on Plymouth Colony history, 16th- and 17th-century English and European potters and pottery, with a particular emphasis on the tools, practices, and techniques used by English and Dutch potters during this period. Guest Experience Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

Our Guest Experience Associates help to bring to life the remarkable stories of the people to lived along these shores of change 400 years ago and create a positive and memorable experience for our guests. In this position you will lead and/or be part of several walking tours of the Museum’s historical sites, guiding our guests through exhibits and programs. This position also provides educational programs and living history programs. There is an option (not required) to learn some traditional skills and demonstrate those to guests. Full-time and part time positions are available. Daily work hours vary according to the season, but in general between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. Mornings and early afternoons are busy when schools are in session; weekends are busy if the weather cooperates. Some early evening work during the summer season.  Do you enjoy meeting new people and having conversations with them on subjects they’re interested in and you’re knowledgeable about? Do you love to entertain and educate? Are you interested in the history of our country and sharing that with guests from around the country and around the world? Do you enjoy being outdoors in all sorts of weather and walking (a lot)? If so, working at Plimoth Patuxet Museums as a Guest Experience Associate may be the job for you.  No experience necessary; we offer an in-depth training program. Museum Theater Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

Plimoth Patuxet is looking for a Museum Theater Coordinator to assist the Museum Theatre Manager in all aspects of the rehearsal process of the timed, scripted and semi-scripted, immersive production that will be performed multiple times a day. They will also provide hands-on support for all performances of the daily production including calling cues, resetting props/costumes/scenery, and overseeing operational logistics. The Museum Theater Coordinator will facilitate communication between Historic Sites and Guest Experience staff and the cast. They will also write daily performance reports.  Due to the immersive nature of this production, we are looking for an excellent problem solver and communicator who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously. They must be comfortable overseeing and operating a complex performance. We also seek someone comfortable working outdoors and with immersive, devised theatre. A passion for history and education is a plus.  This individual will attend and manage all rehearsals and performances of the timed, scripted and semi-scripted, immersive theatre production. He/she must demonstrate familiarity with the logistics of stage managing immersive, devised and/or outdoor theatre.  We are looking for someone with professional theatre and stage management experience required.  Bachelor’s degree in theatre or related field required. Historical Performer

POSITION SUMMARY

Plimoth Patuxet is looking for full time and part time Historical Performers for our new Museum Theatre program. These individuals portray 17th-century people in timed, scripted or semi-scripted, immersive productions that will be performed multiple times a day. Aspects of this production will include but are not limited to scripted scenarios, plays, hands-on activities, and storytelling. The Historical Performer must have a talent for as well as experience in performance and improvisation while being comfortable interacting with a diverse audience of all ages. The Historical Performer must be able to take cues from a director, memorize lines and blocking, and improve their performance based on feedback. They also must learn and retain a foundational amount of 17th-century historical information. The production will be built upon historical research and a foundational script. There will be situations where the Historical Performer must improvise with audience members. A high school diploma or equivalent required. Some college or professional level training in acting or performance is preferred.

Must have a minimum of two years of acting experience. This may include high school, college or community theatre performances. Experience with improv, immersive theatre, and devised theatre strongly preferred.  Experience playing an instrument, singing, and dancing strongly preferred.
