An UnbeLEAFable Success

It was a great thyme at the Annual Spring Heirloom Plant Sale! Volunteers and guests braved the chilly weather for two incredibly successful weekends. The fundraiser was a fun and fruitful way to support the Museum’s mission, and Plimoth Patuxet can’t wait to watch these seedlings grow as summer approaches!

Over the last two weekends in May, the Annual Spring Heirloom Plant Sale at Plimoth Patuxet Museums brought springtime cheer to visitors and volunteers alike. The fundraising sale offered a bountiful selection of over 100 types of heirloom species, including the Museum’s favorite heirloom herbs, vegetables, and flowers that are grown on the Historic Patuxet Homesite and in the 17th-Century English Village.

The Plant Sale was a culmination of months of hard work from our volunteers and horticulture staff, who have been diligently propagating a variety of plants for local gardeners to enjoy. “The volunteer crew contributed more than 350 hours this spring ‘sowing the seeds of history’”, says Dr. Fred Dunford, the Museum’s Horticulture Lead. Plimoth Patuxet is immensely grateful to the volunteers who make this event possible every year, and to the patrons who support the Museum’s mission with their purchases of beautiful seedlings.

As summer approaches, we at the Museum hope that your gardens are in bloom. If not, or if you’re in search of inspiration, come visit our four beautiful gardens recognized as Plymouth Pollinator Pathways! Take a stroll through the Visitor Center Pathway Garden, the Patuxet Homesite Gardens, the 17th-Century English Village Gardens, and the forthcoming Pollinator Garden at the Craft Center Pavilion to see how Plimoth Patuxet Museums blooms and blossoms this season. The pollinator gardens are home to a variety of pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. You may also recognize many of the same heirloom plant varieties from the plant sale!

The annual Spring Heirloom Plant Sale is made possible thanks to the dedication of Plimoth Patuxet’s volunteers who work alongside Dr. Fred Dunford. Proceeds from the Plant Sale supports our educational mission. Plimoth Patuxet Museums is open for the 2025 season now through the Sunday following Thanksgiving Day.
