Grateful for a Second Show of Support
Plimoth Patuxet Museums celebrates being awarded $60,000 in grant funds from the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism. The funds, in conjunction with an earlier award of $200,000, will support efforts celebrating Plymouth’s ties to the roots of our Nation in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
For 77 years, Plimoth Patuxet Museums has shared stories of the events that took place on these historic shores during the 17th century. These events created the cultural landscape that coalesced into the United States of America. As the Nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration, we celebrate the Revolutionary Ideas that started here, in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Plimoth Patuxet is grateful to the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) for awarding the Museum $60,000 to support the promotion of “Revolutionary Ideas Started Here,” a new interpretive program celebrating Plymouth’s ties to the roots of our Nation. This is the second grant awarded by MOTT to Plimoth Patuxet related to the 250th celebration, following an award of $200,000 in support of preparing for America’s 250th
through updating guest-facing amenities and exhibits.
We're grateful to MOTT for their confidence in and support of Revolutionary Ideas Started Here. At Plimoth Patuxet, we believe that America's 18th-century story can't be understood without an understanding of its 17th-century roots. Before Philadelphia in July 1776 - or even Boston in 1770 - revolutionary developments in self-government and diplomacy were happening here.

The Museum’s work reflects the statewide initiative to commemorate Massachusetts’ pivotal role in America’s Founding. Massachusetts 250 -- a statewide initiative to celebrate 250 years of America’s independence and Massachusetts’ revolutionary legacy -- was launched at the State House on September 17, 2024. The Massachusetts 250 Grant Program, administered by MOTT, provides vital generous funding to projects that highlight historic themes of revolution and independence, celebrate significant “firsts” in Massachusetts history, and take a creative or innovative approach to commemorating the State’s history.
Plimoth Patuxet preserves a national story – one people can continue to draw on and actively participate in. This Museum keeps alive the stories of the people who lived here in the 17th century and the story of the United States’ remarkable and complex beginnings. With generous funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism, the Museum will be able to deepen its educational mission and enhance the stories that it shares with the public whom it exists to serve.
